Ikondo

travel

Today the rain season was so clear to us. It rained all day long but fortunately the sand, whose streets are made of, was not creating too much mud. We bought everything was needed to get ready for the period in Ikondo, in that small village there are really few things to buy. We left Njombe to travel for three hours on a street made of pressed send. Three times a week there is a dalla-dalla public transportation. On the way we have seen many small villages, workers on the fields and children coming back from school. The way was a never ending series of fields: tea, pineapples, mangos... The further we were going the more hilly was the landscape.
project

In Ikondo CEFA has different projects. With the financial support of the european union they have built a damm to produce electricity. They are currently building a electric line to connect other villages to the power plant and develop some small local business making use of the electricity produced.
In Matembwe CEFA has a production center of chicks and pannages.

village

Ikondo is a pretty village were the houses are made of terracotta bricks made with the same sand they use to bulid the streets. Around 3'000 thousand people live spread on the hills of this small village. Around 660 children go to the school in the morning and early afternoon doing many activities open air. All the children going to school have their uniforms that can be slightly different from village to village.

landscape

The landscape seems like the eden garden. Now I really believe that the species has originated here.

celebration

Today the end of the courses in carpentry and tailoring was celebrated in the CEFA compound. Young gilrs and boys were getting their certificates for have worked a whole year in learning some practical skill. The lunch after the delivery of the certificates was composed by simple rice (wali) and rice with spices (pilau), chicken, fresh salad, boild vegetables. Everything was put in a single dish to be eaten with the right hand. After lunch young people were dancing some Tanzanina gigs that I've already listen to the radio. I was maybe expecting some drums:(
