CEFA milk factory

milk factory

The CEFA project in Njombe consists on a milk factory. The agricultural production in Tanzania is strong but the transformation sector is much weaker. CEFA has created a milk factory to collect the milk of 400 local shepherds to produce cheese to be sent mainly in Iringa and Dar. The production of cheese allows the increment of the size of the cattles and the production of milk and creates job opportunities for the workers in the factory.

security

I've heard a lot of good descriptions about Tanzanias, respectful about different religions and ethnis, have a strong sense of justice (probably a bit home made), and believe in friendship. The matter is really complex, there are a lot of aspects to consider and it is impossible for me after such a short time to get into this discussion. One thing to say is that security is an important issue. Better not to walk alone on the streets during the night and not go too far from the main streets. All the large houses, hotels and hostels have high fances and a guardian during the night and the day, all the windows have iron grids. Being white sets such a clear distiction between the people living here and has a lot of complicated meanings. Apart from economical conditions I think that history still plays an important role and underline an important differences between us. It is really difficult not to stress this difference, especially without speaking their language.

colonials

On the evening we went to Kibena club, a bar in the colonial style visited by some kind of new colonials: the espats living there. I've see a some northern eurpeans, a couple of indians, and tens of italians. I kind of believe that now italian is the third spoken language in Njombe and it is pretty funny that now in the villages between Njombe and Ikondo all the wazungu are greated with ciao.
