MUSIC AND MOVIES LAUNCH ‘FROM ANOTHER PLANET’ FILM FESTIVAL AT MOLINO
Be prepared …. May 20 is the launch date of a brand new film festival
called ‘From Another Planet. Music, movies and much more will fill the
Molino Social Centre from 22.00 until sunshine the next day!
At the centre of the film festival is the UK-made ‘Genova Red Zone’ – a
one-hour documentary which looks at the events surrounding the anti-G8
protests which took place in the Italian city nearly four years ago.
The film (which was short-listed (final selection) for the 2002 Venice
Film Festival) is timed to coincide with the start of the legal process
to bring police officers involved in the Scuola Diaz event to justice.
It is the first time this film has been shown publicly in Ticino.
British Film-maker, Sam Wild, who helped make the film explains:
“Genova was a turning point for the anti-globalisation movement and
this film explores the key moments in that event. We hope to explore
some of adrenalin and some of the concepts of Genova with a Ticinese
audience for the first time”. Sam Wild will be holding a question and
answer session at the end of the film.
The film festival will also feature the award-winning film ‘The Control
Room’ which looks at the situation for Al-Jazeera journalists operating
in Iraq during the recent US/UK lead attacks on the country.
There will also be a series of humorous films by groups including
Guerilla News Network (GNN) and Dan Anchorman which provide a new look
at Bin Laden and other recent events including the ‘relationship’
between Tony Blair and George Bush.
Film-makers from Ticino along with people who have recently returned
from exciting parts of the world will also be running question and
Outside the cinema screenings (projections) the night will also feature a ‘chill out’ lounge, guest DJs, crazy visual
projections and a special prize for the loudest (most colourful) Hawaii
