Bagamoyo

dalla-dalla

For larger distances one can take the dalla-dalla which is a small bus with a capacity of 20-30 sits and 15-20 standing people. Some drive can take a couple of hours, there are some stops in the city with no timetables nor directions. The initial and final destinations are written on the front of the dalla-dalla, for every other information one should just ask. The drive is really cheap, we paid 1'800 Tsh from Dar to Bagamoyo which is about 100 km far away. The dalla-dalla station in Dar is Nwenge where there is as well a pretty market just after the bus stop.
There is a large area of the beach which is most of the time under a couple of centimeters below the water surface.

This area is rich in sand worms, crabs and birds.
Fish market

Along the coast fishing is an important activity where many different people get involved. Waiting for the tide the boats get prepared, the nets get checked and all the material is carried on the boats. When the tide is high the fishermen leave on small (two people) or large (tens of people) boats. After the arrival of the first fish the people get ready to clean it, to sort it, to cook it and to prepare the ice to store it. A lot of fried or dried fish was served directly on the stands.
Weather

The weather was pretty warm and humid but sustainable. Along the coast the rain season is not so evident and over the year all the days are pretty much the same. The dawn is around seven a.m. the sunset around seven p.m. At night the temperature is pleasant and a mild wind blows from the sea. During the day the weather is similar to the one we experience in Italy in summer but the sun is somehow stronger and it burns the skin much faster. I did not see many mosquitos so far and I can conclude that the weather is much better and effordable that the one in Padova in summer, maybe a bit boring.
