Wednesday 29 June 2005 in the San Lorenzo market area, vigili and agents of the police and carabinieri intervened in a violent and provocatory manner to stop two Senegalese youth. They injured and arrested one, and brought charges against the other.

In the following days, the press lied about these facts: the papers wrote of “surrounded” police officers, of “degrado”, of “illegality”, with an openly racist tone inciting public opinion against immigrants. It is not the first time that this has happened.

We cannot accept this climate of intolerance and repression

We are a group of people who live in Florence.

We wish to understand: - What is happening in San Lorenzo? - What are the real problems of San Lorenzo and the city? - What can we do to change this situation?

We are going to meet on:

Thursday 14 July 2005 at 9 p.m. c/o FLC-CGIL University of Florence Piazza dell’Indipendenza, 8 (ultimo piano)

We invite you to participate!
