We all are on the same blue boat with yellow stars.
On August 21st, 2008 in Italy comes into force the law 133/2008. It is one of the harshest attacks on public education. Cut of the staff, cut of the funds, paths of excellence, researchers with fixed-term contract. Put simply the privatization of the university system. The protests have been impressive. Millions of people in the street to express their dissent, occupations of the faculties, of the education departments, of the rector offices; lectures on the streets, marches, sit-ins and garrisons to no end. But what really has worried the institutions of half of Europe was not only the number of participants in various events; people began to become aware of class. In any struggle. In the Classroom as on the job. In the universities as in the factory. Alliances workers-students have began to emerge, to be thought of and above we started to feel the need of them. We realized that to really change things the fight had to be generalized. More...

Bologna Burns
Written by bolognaburns.mobilization group
Over the past months, Vienna has witnessed large student protests. Many of their causes are linked to the european bologna process.Quite coincidental, european politicians have planned a "bologna summit" for a longer time, which will take place in Budapest & Vienna (March 11-12)! Its intention is to "celebrate" 10 years of "successful" bologna process implementation.
Since we DON'T SEE ANY REASON FOR CELEBRATING, we are trying to carry out multiple actions and happenings during the days around the summit. For this, we are using the networks we have built up during the past months to get the support of our european friends. This is why you are getting this email!
Please help us to mobilize a huge critical mass to come to Vienna, bringing along their own regional examples of critique about bologna, creative actions and fresh input for thoughts about alternatives!
Please forward this email to any individual or group, that is involved in education politics or activism. Inform yourself on our website, sign up for our newsletter to receive the latest news and plans! Send us your theoretical inputs, workshop offers, translation possibilities, creative action ideas and further contacts we can use! Or just simply tell us: "Yes, we're coming!"

Communiqué
University of Utrecht, the Board of Directors building, February 1st 2010
The Board of Directors crossed the line this time, and this is unacceptable! Despite all efforts to save the paper version of the Ublad (the University newspaper) with the support of thousands of students, professors and the complete U-raad (Council of representatives of the University community), they continue to impose their controversial policies. In the meantime, the quality of our education is at risk and our student grants are about to be cut. This is why we, the occupiers of the building of the Board of Directors at the University of Utrecht, feel obliged to take action and take a stand in favor of an independent, paper version of the Ublad, for the democratization of our University government, and against the cuts on our education imposed by the Dutch government.
